Ceremony to remember Bladen Co. deputy, fallen NC officers

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) -- North Carolina is paying tribute to law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty with the state's annual Peace Officers Memorial Day ceremony.

Attorney General Roy Cooper will deliver opening remarks at the event being held Tuesday morning at Village Baptist Church in Fayetteville. The guest speaker is state Appeals Court Judge Samuel James Ervin IV.

The ceremony will highlight those officers who died since the last service. They are: Jeff Settle of the state Correction Department; William Wright of the state Department of Public Safety; Dewayne Charles Hester of the Bladen County Sheriff's Office; Jeremiah M. Goodson, Jr. of the Lumberton Police Department; Bobby Gene Demuth Jr. of the state Highway Patrol; and Randall "Shane" Thomas of the Henderson County Sheriff's Office.
